Biennale_News Binna Choi Appointed as Artistic Director for the 61st Venice Biennale Korean Pavilion
The Arts Council Korea (ARKO) has appointed curator Binna Choi as the Artistic Director for the Korean Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia (Venice Biennale) in 2026.
Binna Choi previously served as a curator for the 2016 Gwangju Biennale and as a co-artistic director for the 2022 Singapore Biennale. She was the Director of Casco Art Institute in the Netherlands from 2008 to 2023. She is currently serving as a co-artistic director for the Hawai‘i Triennial 2025, which runs until May 4 this year.

Starting in November, approximately 30 works of Korean modern and contemporary art, including the Lee Kun-hee Collection, pieces from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the Leeum Museum of Art, will be exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) in New York. This occasion is particularly significant as it represents the inaugural presentation of a Korean modern and contemporary art exhibition at The Met, which stands among the world’s top four art museums.

While South Korea is geographically closer to Southwest Asia than Europe and the United States, many Koreans are unfamiliar with Southwest Asian arts and culture.
