DOOSAN Art Center DOOSAN Gallery presents DCW
Open Call Exhibition 《HUMORS》
through May 30. 《HUMORS》, the
first exhibition selected through DCW open call, is curated by independent
curator Goeun Song (DCW 2017), and features artists Ayoung Kim, Mooni Perry,
Bang Jeong-A, and IQECO.
This exhibition explores how artists create
new languages and sensibilities in the face of today‘s complex and immense
problems—environmental issues, political polarization, and social
inequality—which often feel like a joke.

In this exhibition, “HUMORS” does not refer
to simple jokes or lighthearted play. Rather, it denotes a subversive
sensibility that emerges from confronting the weight and complexity of reality
to its very end, while also functioning as a methodology for rereading that
reality.
Instead of reducing social, environmental,
and political challenges to objects of satire or ridicule, it operates as a
mode of thinking that unsettles existing orders and systems of meaning by
weaving together disparate elements and recombining heterogeneous
relationships. Here, humor is not a device that lightens reality, but a
critical sensibility and creative strategy that renders a fixed world
unfamiliar and opens up new possibilities for imagining otherwise.
The decision to title the exhibition in the
plural form, HUMORS, reflects this approach. It points not to a singular
attitude, but to a multiplicity of practices and methods realized differently
by each participating artist.
