G Gallery presents 《Presences Adrift》, a solo exhibition by
artist Choi Yoonhee, on view through September 30.
Curated by
independent curator Jee Young Maeng, the exhibition is presented across two
venues: G Gallery and PCO. It runs at G Gallery from August 19 to September 30,
and at PCO from August 27 to October 4.
《Presences
Adrift》 traces the artist’s evolution in depth—from
three large-scale paintings in 《Tuning In》 (2024) and the series ‘Time Standing in a Passage’ through to
2026—spanning watercolor drawings on paper, murals, and oil paintings on
canvas.
Ranging from
canvases the size of the artist's own body, to smaller watercolor drawings
proportionally scaled-down or enlarged from the Body Landscape series, to
large-scale murals, the 40-plus new works in this exhibition unfold a rhythm,
starting from her watercolor drawings on paper, where the colors and forms grow
clearer and deeper.

The holes, thin lines, and delicate,
membrane-like planes created as watercolor dissolves and sets in water function
as essential elements—they become the core of Choi’s painting, acting as
portals extending into other spaces.
These holes and traces of watercolor are
transmitted onto the canvas, where thin lines drawn with diluted oil paint
spreads across surfaces built through layers of rubbing and absorption.
The works are divided between two venues:
PCO features works that freely experiment with dissolution, through watercolor
drawings and on canvases that resemble murals; while G Gallery showcases
canvases whose surfaces resemble overlapping layers that have accumulated into
a solid form, yet still retain the delicacy of thin membranes.
